Ability to instruct a variety of levels preferred.
Qualified individual should possess a passion for the sport in addition to a desire for mentoring young individuals and building character.
GENERAL PURPOSE To teach basic physical education/recreational skills and/or provide tutoring assistance to members/program participants.
To professionally represent the YMCA to the general public.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Must have been involved in recreational and/or sports activities for at least two years and possess basic knowledge and skills to teach a quality basic program.
Must have six months experience in working with youth.
Must receive training/orientation in Blood borne Pathogens and Child Abuse Prevention within first three months of hire.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS Physically fit in order to participate in all aspects of the various programs.
Ability to lift 30 pounds without strain and mentally alert to recognize potential hazards and accidents.
Ability to make sound judgments even when distracted by noise and activity.
Ability to handle irate complaining or demanding individuals without internalizing or personalizing comments made.
JOB SEGMENTS 1.
Greet all participants and parents.
2.
Teach members and non-members proper physical education skills.
3.
Accurate record/attendance keeping is necessary.
4.
Begin classes on time.
Attendance and punctuality are required.
5.
Stretch and warm up all students.
6.
Must set up and put away all equipment daily as instructed by supervisor.
7.
While on duty, must exhibit the Judeo-Christian values the YMCA is founded on, to the membership, other staff and guests.
8.
Handle accidents and emergencies in a comfortable and confident manner in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
9.
Report any unsafe situation to the Supervisor.
10.
Clean and disinfect program equipment daily.
11.
Must be punctual and follow schedule as directed by supervisor.
12.
Must exemplify YMCA Core Values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith; and implement these values into daily behavior and all program/work areas.
JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY 1.
Must be able to communicate with all ages of youth and parents in a pleasant and professional manner (enthusiasm, confidence, respectfully and politely).
2.
Must know and be able to correctly spot and lift a 30 pound youth.
3.
Must have the ability to perform duties without direct supervision.
4.
Must be able to communicate and establish good relations with the rest of the staff team.
5.
Must be able to supervise and motivate several youths at one time without losing patience.
6.
Must be able to teach program to both boys and girls.
7.
Must be able to read and understand written instructions and printed materials in English.
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED 1.
Sports and/or Recreational equipment 2.
Cleaning materials ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS 1.
Must wear appropriate apparel as outlined by supervisor/policy.
2.
Must attend additional trainings/meetings (CPR, Blood borne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention, Customer Service, Character Development, staff meetings, etc.
) as required by supervisor.
3.
Must show a continuing effort to improve skills (extra-curricular training, reading, etc.
).
4.
Must never leave youth in the room without another staff person supervising them.
5.
Read and abide by the YMCA Personnel Policy Manual.
