*Job Description *
We are looking for a Mathematics Teacher.
You will work directly with Middle School students and other teachers (Language, History, Science) to ensure that our adolescent students meet the class objectives as per the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills).
You will be teaching in a Middle School that follows the guidelines and principles of Montessori education.
Our groups include students of different ages and grades.
*Education Requirements*
* BA or BS in the areas of Math, Algebra 1, 2, and Geometry; Fluent in written and spoken English and Spanish.
* Evidence of previous teaching at junior high school or middle school level
*Essential Functions *
* Preferred Knowledge of Robotics and Chess.
* Promoting a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small-group instruction.
* Guiding students in the principles of grace and courtesy.
* Supervising students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation.
* Developing materials and lessons that speak to the interests of the students using the Montessori curriculum and approach.
* Conducting individual and small group instruction and ongoing assessment of the student’s learning, and modifying instruction, when necessary, to fit the individual needs of students, including students with special needs.
* Documenting and maintaining an accurate and complete record-keeping of the student's progress, activities, and outcomes; providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.
* Coordinating with other Montessori staff members to evaluate and assess curriculum.
Participating in reflective Montessori practice in conjunction with the Level Coordinator
* Developing and administering an authentic Montessori curriculum consistent with accredited Montessori training.
* Provide effective communication with students and parents.
* Participate in faculty meetings and committees.
* Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in Montessori education by participating in professional development and attending seminars.
* Administer standardized tests (Iowa Test).
*Additional Duties*
* Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Head of School
*Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities*
* Knowledgeable in Excel, Word, PowerPoint & Publisher.
* Ability to organize and coordinate work to ensure all students are being served in a high-quality environment every day
* Training as a Montessori Adolescent Program teacher and knowledge of Montessori methods and educational pedagogy
* Familiarity with the use of educational information systems, data analysis, and the formulation of action plans
* Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students
* Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents
* Ability to engage in self-evaluation about performance and professional growth.
* Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
*Qualifications*
* Seeking to be trained at the Montessori Adolescent Orientation Program
* State Certification or willing to seek certification
*Education Requirements*
* Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
* Master’s Degree in related areas preferred.
*Travel Requirements*
* Participation in school-led trips, including overnight trips for Adolescent Program students.
*Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards*
* Works in the Adolescent Program building and outdoor environment
*Experience*
* Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels is a plus.
