Maintenance Supervisor will work closely with the VP of Trucking, yard technicians, dispatchers and drivers to coordinate all mechanical needs and ensure the fleet and heavy equipment is available, dependable and safe at all times.
This person will keep the trucks and trailers operational while complying with corporate policies and government regulations.
Additionally, this person is responsible to manage all personnel within the maintenance department.
The Maintenance Supervisor reports directly to the VP of Trucking.
Job Duties:
• Ensure regular servicing and maintenance of all trucks/trailers.
Send weekly reminder report on Tuesday to CEO, VP of Trucking
• Keep service and maintenance records current for all vehicles and in a secure location
• Comply with all safety and industry regulations for all work processes.
• Coordinate and supervise all maintenance work and repairs with yard foreman and dispatchers
• Inspect any driver repairs completed while over the road
• Review pre/post trip inspection sheets and schedule mechanical work to be completed.
• Monitor all inventory levels within the maintenance department, order parts when necessary and add/remove from inventory
• Interpret and ensure consistent application of organizational policies and safety regulations.
• Complete necessary weekly reports for the VP of Trucking
• Assist with after-hours emergency equipment calls
• Monitor and manage inventory of tractor and trailer tires
• Remain up-to-date on all mechanical techniques and changes for the Detroit engine by attending classes and/or seminars
• Train and supervise yard technicians on light mechanical procedures
• Supervise all shop and outside yard employees
• Responsible for completing Preventative Maintenance duties.
All work completed will be recorded and placed in the maintenance file.
PM’s include but are not limited to:
Balancing, rotating and aligning tires on trucks/trailers
Change air hoses and water hoses
Wheel seals (trucks/trailers)
Hub seals
Change/Install radiators
Install shocks
Change alternators
Change belts
Change drums/brakes (trucks and trailers)
Adjust brakes trucks/trailers
King pens
Electrical work when needed
Change starters
Airbags
Deferential seals
Torque unbolts
Adjust bearings
Skills/Qualifications/Requirements:
• Ability to remain on feet for extended period
• Must have at least 4 years of truck repair experience
• Exceptional communication skills (both verbal and written)
• Team oriented but able to work independently without direct supervision
• Bi Lingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required
• Must have working knowledge of and ability to troubleshoot all systems located on a truck and/or a semi-trailer
• Ability to work in extremely hot or cold climates.
